Teaching Artist, Visual Arts
Description

Portsmouth Music and Arts Center seeks a visual artist and educator to teach classes and private lessons in PMAC’s Visual Art program for youth and adults. This position is for one day per week to start, during daytime hours 12noon-4pm. This position begins in fall 2023.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Education, duties are as follows:

  • Teach small group classes for youth and adults, onsite at PMAC (973 Islington St. Portsmouth); the specific curriculum can be designed by the teaching artist.
  • Teach private visual art lessons as needed
  • Effectively administer and manage studio and classes in collaboration with staff and in adherence to school procedures and policies
  • Set up before each class and clean/organize art studio classroom at conclusion of class
  • Prepare students for art shows each semester
  • Participate in recruitment activities inside and outside of the school
  • Attend faculty meetings several times a year
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree preferred, or 3+ years of undergraduate study in visual art, graphic design, digital animation or art education. Experience working and teaching in a non-profit, community center, or classroom setting preferred. Candidates must have working knowledge of basic art mediums such as drawing, painting and basic multimedia. Experience with and a passion for teaching art to youth ages 6-10 is a plus.
